The audience enjoy First Person Shooter games  because they are addictive and there are a limitless amount of games.The audience enjoy the FPS games because there is a lot of stuff o do now that the online experience has came out and that players can play with up to 64 people without being in he same room.

HA3 - Task 2 Identifying Target Audience

The amount of people that play first person shooter games is unreal there are a lot of fps games that are all connected within the same objective to accomplish.The target audience is mainly based for around 14-24 year old's and are mostly males, As of some quantitative research i found males are the ones that play FPS games the most, This is mainly because there is too much violence and explicit language.0.

HA3 - Task 1 Game Genre and Game Profiles

For this assignment i was given the task to work as a journalist and to write an illustrated article that explains the current trends in audience behavior for the magazine EDGE.
The third part of the article will focus on why audiences like games.

I had to choose a video game genre and 3 games to do with that genre.
i chose the genre first person shooter.
The 3 games i chose are 
Call Of Duty
Far cry 3 
Counter-Strike

First Person Shooter
First Person Shooter is a type of games genre that relies on shooting multiple targets and, as the players play through the eyes of the character trying to reach a specific goal/mission.first person game modes now have multiplayer game modes like team deathmatch and free for all that relies on players to shoot other players and ranking up in an ordered system.



Call Of Duty
The Call Of Duty series has multiple missions and tasks during the games campaign.The games always conclude to finding the villain and killing them in a different way everytime. The best thing about the Call Of Duty franchise is the online multiplayer, many people from all over the world playing in one big multiplayer math either in teams or on there own,in game modes that the game companies think players will like most like free for all that has a goal of reaching the score limit withing a specific time or kill confirmed that has a goal of being in a team and shooting the other team and collecting dog tags.

Far cry 3
In Far cry 3 the players play as Jason Brody,the game starts on a holiday with 4 friends Liza Snow,Daisy Lee, Keith Ramsay and Oliver Carswell and your 2 brothers Grant Brody and Riley Brody. the holiday starts to become a nightmare when you wake up with you and you brother locked in a cage in a camp, you escape with you brother and attempt to escape the camp, vaas the villain in the game murders you brother and you attempt get revenge on him while saving the rest of your friends and brother. Far cry 3 is an open world first person shooter that has a lot of side quests as well as the main campaign. Far cry 3 also features a co-operative mode that features you and a friend to play missions trying to reach the specific goal in any way possible with that being stealthy with bow and arrows or full on shoot em up with  assault rifles and shotguns, Although Far cry 3's campaign is 25-30 hours long the game also features an online multiplayer that means you can play against other players with a huge range of weapons my favorite was the bow and arrow ,The online multiplayer also features a map editor that means that you can create a map for you and a bunch of your friends to play, The map editor features a bunch of tools for you to use like putting in trees and other parts of the environment and putting animals and deadly creature in the game so people get attacked and killed by them without other players not to waste a bullet.

Counter Strike

Counter-Strike is an all online multiplayer game that has a range of weapons and accessories such as grenades and night vision or armor, Counter strike has game modes that people have made for example instead if there being player vs player there is a game mode where its player vs zombies and if you are a zombie and kill a player they become a zombie.

HA2 Task 1 – Construction Analysis


 Break down, explain and analyse the games, The Last of Us and Just Dance, in order to identify the way in which they are constructed. You will need to address each of the following for the games:

1.        Genre (what type or category of games are they?).
2.        Content (what do they look like and how are they styled - words, images, colours, fonts?).
3.        Construction (how are the games built, what is the story and interaction?).
4.        Codes and conventions (what do you expect to happen in such games and what symbols are used?).
5.        Modes of address (how do the games talk to you?).
6.        Target Audience (who are the games aimed at?).
7.        Constraints (what is stopping the developers creating exactly what they want?).

Use images and trailers/gameplay to illustrate your points.

Remember that you are trying to explain ways in which a media product is constructed for a specific audience with reference to precise and detailed illustrative examples.



Just Dance
Genre:simulation/party

Construction: The game is full of bright colors, The colors are like that to show that the game is for people a young age.

Style: Bright gaming characters that are dancing to the beat of the song playing in the game.

Codes and conventions:The type of story is interactive. The gameplay you would expect in just dance is bright colors and people dancing to the song playing in the background.The special features in just dance are  there is a world dance where you compete with other people from across the world.

Modes of address: The game speaks to the audience with the big bold and bright colors. the text is bold to attract people to play that part in the game.

Pegi rating: 3



The Last Of Us

Genre:Survival Horror, Action/Adventure

Content: Dim Dark colors to make the game as scary and horrifying as possible.

Construction: The gameplay is smooth and clean.

Codes: The title of the game stands out about what the game is about. two characters travelling from one area of the USA to the other with a lot of types of enemies on the way there. The game makes you feel emotional in  parts of the game.

Target: the game is aimed at 15-24 year olds because that is the main age that is gaming and what horror games are mainly for.

Constraints: the amount of violence fits into the rating because it has been made an 18 game however people younger want to be able to buy and play the game.

HA1 Task 2 - Applying Research Techniques

For my quantitative i went out to a local video game shop and asked 20 people if they have played the game Grand Theft Auto 5 i collected my results and put them in a spreadsheet and a word document.

as you can see in the spreadsheet above i have asked more males then i asked females.



In the word document above u can see i put my results in order and i have done it so that there is at least 5 answers for each question.There are 4 questions about what the person thinks about th game and what they didn't like in the game there is also what do they think should be changed and most people said the online.

HA1 Task 1 - Research Techniques

Quantitative research
quantitative research is asking specific closed questions and collects specific information and are questions that answer who what when and where questions for example
Have you played The Last Of Us?
Did you like it? When did you play it? Did you enjoy it?

The advantages of quantitative research:
  • Answers questions such as 'how much?' and 'how many?' 
    • Provides more of a decision making the conformation.
The disadvantages of quantitative research:
  • It is more expensive and takes more time
  • fixed questionnaire structure

Qualitative  Research 
Qualitative research is asking open questions that collects a little bit more information than quantitative research collects. qualitative research asks why questions for example
Why did you like The Last Of Us?

Qualitative research is useful to game publishers because they can ask people to play a game that they are making and then they can ask them what they think.
The advantages of qualitative research:
  • Uses subjective information
  • Explores new areas of research
  • provides face to face indicators 

The disadvantages of qualitative research:
  • relatively small numbers
  • very time consuming

Audience profiling 
Audience profiling is looking at a specific group of people and staying with that group of people this could be the age rating of a game for example if the game is an 18+ then the gaming company is going to be aiming on a game that is for 18 year olds this could include violence and explicit language and blood and gore..
