HA2 Task 1 – Construction Analysis


 Break down, explain and analyse the games, The Last of Us and Just Dance, in order to identify the way in which they are constructed. You will need to address each of the following for the games:

1.        Genre (what type or category of games are they?).
2.        Content (what do they look like and how are they styled - words, images, colours, fonts?).
3.        Construction (how are the games built, what is the story and interaction?).
4.        Codes and conventions (what do you expect to happen in such games and what symbols are used?).
5.        Modes of address (how do the games talk to you?).
6.        Target Audience (who are the games aimed at?).
7.        Constraints (what is stopping the developers creating exactly what they want?).

Use images and trailers/gameplay to illustrate your points.

Remember that you are trying to explain ways in which a media product is constructed for a specific audience with reference to precise and detailed illustrative examples.



Just Dance
Genre:simulation/party

Construction: The game is full of bright colors, The colors are like that to show that the game is for people a young age.

Style: Bright gaming characters that are dancing to the beat of the song playing in the game.

Codes and conventions:The type of story is interactive. The gameplay you would expect in just dance is bright colors and people dancing to the song playing in the background.The special features in just dance are  there is a world dance where you compete with other people from across the world.

Modes of address: The game speaks to the audience with the big bold and bright colors. the text is bold to attract people to play that part in the game.

The Last Of Us

Genre:Survival Horror, Action/Adventure

Content: Dim Dark colors to make the game as scary and horrifying as possible.

Construction: The gameplay is smooth and clean.

Codes: The title of the game stands out about what the game is about. two characters travelling from one area of the USA to the other with a lot of types of enemies on the way there. The game makes you feel emotional in  parts of the game.

Target: the game is aimed at 15-24 year olds because that is the main age that is gaming and what horror games are mainly for.

Constraints: the amount of violence fits into the rating because it has been made an 18 game however people younger want to be able to buy and play the game.
